Town council plans to take more active role in much delayed K2L cycleway
The town council has said it will take a more active role in making sure that the long-anticipated K2L cycleway is completed as soon as possible.
The 5km cycleway was given the green light fully by county councillors last January, but Warwickshire County Council is yet to finish the design.
And with the current timeline predicting that the Kenilworth to Leamington Spa route will not open until 2026, Cllr Andrew Milton said Kenilworth Town Council should get more involved in the project.
"As someone who works in Leamington and is hoping to retire in 2029 I am becoming very fearful that this will never become of use for me personally," he said at last week's Kenilworth Town Council meeting.
"What I would like to do, given the continued slow progress, is actually take a bit of a lead on this in terms of working with other stakeholders who are also interested."
Councillors unanimously backed a plan to engage with Leamington Town Council, the University of Warwick and Warwick District Council in order to urge WCC into action.
Cllr Milton said KTC would ask its county colleagues for information to help "understand the reasons for the slow progress" and "convey our desire" for movement.
WCC opened a public consultation for phase one of the cycleway at the end of August.
Once complete the project will see a new foot and cycle bridge built over the River Avon near Chesford Grange.
