A Kenilworth accountant who ran over 500 marathons for charity has received his MBE nearly two years after it was announced in the Queen's New Year Honours.

David Phillips, of Phillips and Becker Ltd on Priory Road, was awarded the MBE after raising over £142,000 for the Brain & Spine Foundation.

He attended a ceremony at Windsor Castle on November 3 to receive his MBE which was first announced in the 2019 honours list.

David ran his first marathon in 1982 and has since completed over 500 full and 363 half marathons.

He first started raising money for The Brain & Spine foundation in 2002 when he ran the London Marathon and has since been made a community ambassador for the charity.

Accompanied by his wife Robina he had the pleasure of meeting the Princess Royal who them met him again at Warwick School on November 5 during a visit to the town.

Kenilworth Town Council, which uses David's accounting services, said: "Members of the town council are incredibly proud (and in awe) of David's achievement and send their heartfelt congratulations.

"Well done David, it is now time for a well-earned rest!"
