One of the fastest-growing sports in the UK is thriving right here in Kenilworth.

Founded in 2024, Kenilworth Pickleball Club was created to give local residents an opportunity to experience a sport that was rapidly gaining popularity across the country.

At the time, there were very few local clubs accepting new members, particularly younger players, and many required lengthy journeys to attend.

Determined to make the sport accessible to everyone, a group of local enthusiasts sourced equipment, booked courts at Kenilworth School and began introducing friends and family to the game.

Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis.

Played on a badminton-sized court with specialist paddles and a lightweight perforated ball, it is easy to learn and suitable for players of all ages and fitness levels.

The sport places a greater emphasis on skill, tactics and placement than outright power, making it both accessible for beginners while still providing plenty of competitive excitement for experienced players.

Beginners are welcomed at every session, where experienced members help them learn the basics of the game.

A key factor in the club's success has been its partnership with Kenilworth Multi Academy Trust and KMAT Leisure.

Kenilworth School's modern sports facilities "provide an ideal home for the club", allowing multiple games to take place simultaneously, clear markings and ample run-off space to ensure player safety.

Looking ahead, the club has ambitious plans to continue growing participation in the sport across the local area. Working alongside KMAT Leisure, it hopes to introduce more young people to pickleball, expand coaching opportunities and bring back popular tournaments that have previously been hosted at the school.

Sessions take place on Tuesdays from 7.30pm to 9.30pm and Sundays from 2.30pm to 4.30pm, with all necessary equipment available for newcomers.
