Warwickshire's royal connections are the focus of a new online guide to help celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee.

'In the Footsteps of Royalty' is packed with local things to do and see and places to eat, drink and stay - all with a connection to the monarchy.

Kenilworth Castle, having played host to a number of kings and queens including Elizabeth I and Henry V, features alongside Warwick Castle.

Other sites include St Mary's Guildhall which is renowned for its magnificent interiors and 16th-century tapestry, which depicts the court of Henry VI as he sought refuge in Coventry during the Wars of the Roses.

"The Warwickshire Lieutenancy encourage people to explore this beautiful county this year and to enjoy learning about Warwickshire's past and present royal connections," The Lord Lieutenant of Warwickshire, Tim Cox

"It is a great moment to be a part of this incredible celebratory occasion in 2022 and one that we will look back on now and in future generations."

"Warwickshire is a great place to celebrate the Queen's Platinum Jubilee this year, which marks Her Majesty The Queen's 70th year as monarch."

Warwickshire's royal connections can also be discovered at Coughton Court, where a chemise believed to have been worn by Mary Queen of Scots, when she was beheaded in 1587, can be seen in the Tribune room.

There is also a royal flavour to Warwickshire's towns.

Warwick, which is among the bidders for city status in 2022, was founded in 914 by Ethelfleda, the warrior queen of mighty Mercia.

While Royal Leamington Spa was bestowed a regal association by Queen Victoria.

Plus the long-distance path the Monarch's Way passes through Warwickshire. Walkers can trace a 35-mile section of the 625-mile journey made by Charles II following his defeat by Cromwell at the Battle of Worcester in 1651, from the Midlands to England's south coast at Shoreham-by-Sea.
