Warwickshire endurance athlete Paddy Doyle has smashed the world record for running a half marathon while carrying a 120lb backpack.

Paddy Doyle "trained especially hard" to set a time of three hours, 35 minutes and 48 seconds.

The feat on April 24 smashed the previous world record time of seven hours 32 minutes set by "former arch rival" and ex Royal Green Jackets Soldier Mike Buss.

Paddy completed the challenge on the roads around Claverdon, and says it is his 849th career fitness and endurance challenge.

"The roads and lanes around Claverdon Village had many short inclines but the support team had plenty of refreshments at all of the checkpoints," Paddy said.

"I am only one away from another milestone of 850 sporting feats which I hope to achieve at the end of May in Warwickshire."
