The July update for the Stoneleigh Junction A46 works has been released by Warwickshire County Council (WCC).

Originally due to be finished in the summer 2022, work resumed on site at the start of 2026.

The project - which is now set to cost considerably more than the £38 million originally approved - is due for completion in 2027.

The local authority has confirmed the four 'lower wingwalls' for the New A46 Bridge were poured on 14 July.

This involved around 225 cubic metres of concrete to be placed within the shuttering to form the wall stems.

Wingwalls are the concrete retaining wall structures that will support the road behind the bridge and the associated embankments.

The concrete was delivered in 27 loads throughout the day across the four locations, with the first load on site at 5.45am and the last wagon leaving just after 4pm.

The council said every load was tested before it was used.

The wingwalls themselves range from 9.5m to 7.7m tall.

"Following this pour, we have now commenced the construction of the adjacent wingwall stems, and once the shuttering is erected, will be pouring these in the coming weeks," the update said.

"Construction of these concrete walls will then allow the project to commence with the install and compaction of the 6N backfill* for the structural soil block."
