A number of works to trees in Abbey Fields have been announced by Warwick District Council.

An oak tree to the north-west side of the lake is due to pollarded, and will be reduced in size to around four metres.

In his weekly update, chief executive Chris Elliot said the works will be completed "in the coming days".

Two other oak trees have already been 'monolithed' (had their main branches removed).

The smaller branches have been retained to create dead hedges, providing habitats for a multitude of wildlife.

The news comes as Warwickshire County Council is about to fell a dying tree at the top of the park.

A beech tree on Abbey Hill will be removed on Tuesday 27 August "due to a rapid decline noted in its vigour and the presence of Giant Polypore fungus".
