A mature Beech Tree in Kenilworth will be cut down next week for "safety reasons".

Kenilworth Town Council has updated residents to say the tree on Abbey Hill will be removed on Tuesday 27 August.

The tree will be cut down by Warwickshire County Council contractors.

The town council's update said the works were "due to a rapid decline noted in its vigour and the presence of Giant Polypore fungus".

"On the basis the tree will not recover, it will be removed for safety reasons," the update explained.
