Trains to Kenilworth Railway Station will be cancelled next week as drivers plan to strike over pay and redundancies.

Members of the Rail, Maritime and Transport (RMT) union will walk out on Network Rail and 13 train companies on three days next week.

On Tuesday 21 June up to 50,000 workers are expected to strike nationwide, with 40,000 to do the same on Thursday 23 and Saturday 25 of June.

And with the disruption worsened by the fact that signallers will also walk out, rail operators have warned of serious delays and knock-on effects throughout the week.

Services are expected to be reduced by 80 per cent nationwide, making this the most widespread industrial action for a century.

Kenilworth Railway Station operator West Midlands Railway has told commuters only to travel if journeys are "essential" but to expect "severe disruption".

Trains along the Leamington Spa to Nuneaton line - which serves Kenilworth - will run as normal on Monday 20 and Sunday 26. Albeit there will be a later start on the Sunday.

But trains will be cancelled for the rest of the week.

A rail replacement bus will operate instead.

A statement on the WMR website said: "This will have a considerable impact on the number of trains we are able to run.

"We will be running a very limited service on these dates between 7.30am and 6.30pm only. Due to the knock-on impact of the strike, a very limited service will also be running on Wednesday 22 June 2022 and Friday 24 June 2022."

The cancelled service comes just weeks after a new coffee shop opened in the town's station.

Jonny Wiseman, WMR customer experience director, said: "It is very disappointing that this planned strike action by the RMT is set to cause significant disruption to our passengers.

"We will be operating a very limited service all through the week and we are asking customers to only travel with us if their journey is essential and no other transport option is available to them.

"Passengers holding tickets or season tickets will be entitled to refunds and should visit our website for information."
