Tickets are now available for a host of free events in Kenilworth aimed at getting locals out in nature and learning about the world around them.

The third annual Kenilworth Naturewatch Week will get underway at the town centre market on Saturday, May 27, and run until June 4.

With many of the popular events from the last two years - including stream dipping, bat walks and nature trails - returning, Mayor of Kenilworth Cllr Sam Louden-Cooke said there is a lot to look forward to.

"There are similar events to what we have had previously, but with some extra events added in," she told Nub News.

"We have got the Warwickshire Geological Conservation Group with a walk in the old town, which should be excellent. And they have said they will add in a second if there is enough demand.

"We just want as many people to join in, have a really fantastic time and get stuck in really."

While many of the events are aimed at families, Cllr Louden-Cooke said there were also some events designed for an older audience.

And, like the last two years, all the events throughout the week will be free.

"It is about accessibility," she added.

"We are dealing with the cost of living crisis and we want everyone to be able to get out in the fresh air, learn and do things as a family without having to worry about the cost or whether they can afford it."

The event, which is organised by Kenilworth Town Council, is run by volunteers and local groups.

And the mayor said she hopes the new council formed after next month's election will continue to run the event and make it a key feature of the Kenilworth calendar.

"Firstly, it is about community engagement - we have been asked by the people of the town to do things to make the town an even better place to live," she explained.

"It is important to spread that engagement with everyone, not just certain demographics.

"We have also declared a climate emergency so it is important we give the people a chance to learn about local nature and what they and we can do to help fight climate change."
