The organisers of Kenilworth Naturewatch Week have said they are looking to build on the 'big success' of the inaugural event last year as it returns for 2022.

Having been launched by Kenilworth Town Council's climate emergency group last spring, the free community event will run from May 26 to June 3 this year.

And building on feedback from last year Naturewatch Week 2022 will include an even wider range of events.

"Last year was the first time we had run it, and it was a big success," said event organiser Cllr Sam Cooke.

"Everyone who took part was really positive about it and we had some really constructive feedback which we have taken on board for this year.

"One of the things people said was there was nothing about birds, it was mainly focusing on insects and plants.

"So this year we have a bird walk around Kenilworth and a bird song walk around the common at the bright early hour of 6am!"

Kenilworth Naturewatch Week will remain free for 2022

As well as the new bird walks, residents will be able to chose from stream dipping, bat walks and minibeast hunts, as well as many more.

And Cllr Cooke said making sure the event remained free was key to what the council wanted to achieve.

"It is hugely important," she said.

"It is about accessibility and encouraging people to take part and engage with the community.

"We have been fortunate that the council bought the equipment for things like the stream dipping, so we can use it again this year.

"It is about making the event accessible to people of all age brackets, all income levels and we have tried to make as many of the events accessible for people of all abilities."

Signups are already open and can be accessed via the town council website.

And with Naturewatch Week and the town's Jubilee celebrations less than a month away Cllr Cooke said she and the rest of the organisers were just looking forward to getting started.

"I have loved doing this, it has been really fun putting it together for a second year, especially seeing the enthusiasm from the organisers last year," she added.

"And I can't pick one event I'm most looking forward to because they all look amazing!"
