Volunteers from National Gas have stepped up to help complete a major makeover of a Kenilworth day centre's garden space.

Over the past few months Waverley day centre has been completing its Garden Enrichment project for the benefit of its clients.

This has been aided by a recent afternoon of volunteering from National Gas' cyber security team who headed to the Waverley Road centre to provide the finishing touches.

The team of nine - who visited three sites in their volunteering - spent a few hours planting shrubs and spring bulbs, installing bird feeders and bird boxes, siting a statue and clearing a wildly overgrown area to the side of the building.

In doing so they even salvaged an original iron roller which will now become a climbing frame for plants, to add another area of interest in the garden for Waverley's clients.

A memorial angel statue was also installed and leaves cleared from across the paths and lawn.

Following the day, Waverley manager Kate Sweet said: "We are so grateful to National Gas and their team for all their help.

"It was a great afternoon and fun was had by all.

"The garden makeover will make a huge difference and we look forward to seeing the first wave of bulbs emerge in a couple of months.

"Many thanks to all the, local businesses and individuals who have supported the project."

Works on the garden have progressed over the summer, starting with landscaping thanks to grants and fundraising.

This was followed by a series of donations of plants and volunteers' time from local businesses in August.

Smith's Garden Centre in Baginton, Hintons Nursery in Warwick, The Tiltyard Pub on Leyes Lane and Waitrose in Kenilworth all agreed to support the project.

This culminated in a huge day of planting at the end of August, boosted by the expert gardening knowledge of Waverley regular Roger and three members of KATA: Hannif, Yvonne and Tony.

Waverley has been providing opportunities to older people for many years and is in a unique position to be able to provide a transport service to clients living in the CV8 area but equally welcomes clients from further afield.
