Young readers will be given the chance to create their own "monstrously funny" stories at an interactive writing masterclass in Kenilworth this September.

Children's author Jack Meggitt-Phillips will lead the hour-long session at The Kenilworth Centre on Saturday 19 September.

Organised by Kenilworth Books, the event will introduce young readers to Jack's new middle-grade series, Jekyll vs Hyde.

The first instalment, The Potion of Doom, gives Robert Louis Stevenson's classic tale a modern twist.

In 1886, Dr Jekyll drank a potion which created the super-powered Mr Hyde. In Jack's new story, set in 2026, a spoiled and cunning boy called Henrik Jekyll rediscovers the potion and accidentally unleashes a brand-new Hyde.

Described as a "laugh-out-loud carnival of chaos", the masterclass will help youngsters develop the skills needed to devise their own funny and fearsome stories.

Bestselling author Jack will also take his audience on a whistle-stop tour through Victorian London which inspired Stevenson's original novel.

This as well as reading a section of The Potion of Doom to his young audience.

The session will run from 10am to 11am and tickets cost £10.

The price includes a copy of Jekyll vs Hyde: The Potion of Doom, as well as all the materials needed during the workshop.

The event is the latest in a busy programme organised by Kenilworth Books, which regularly welcomes writers and illustrators to the town.
