Kenilworth School students launch 'urgent' appeal for compost so Talisman Square plants can be relocated
Sixth formers at Kenilworth School have launched an "urgent" appeal for donations of compost to allow for some of the soon-to-be displaced plants in Talisman Square to be rehomed.
The plea for local support comes as community group Friends of Talisman Square (FoTS) looks to find a new place for the greenery, having been told by the square's owners to move them.
Despite plans to redevelop the town centre car park into flats and more shops being rejected last year, developer Cobalt Estate has said all the plants need to be removed by the end of March.
Kenilworth Town Council has already pledged to spend £3,500 on new planters and soil to have some of the plants moved to Station Road.
But now the Eco Committee at Kenilworth School has asked locals to donate compost so some of the flowers can be taken to the new Glasshouse Lane site.
"We are in urgent need of donations for compost so that the Talisman Square planting can be installed on Sunday (March 10)," committee members told Nub News.
"There will be a blue wheelie bin outside reception tomorrow all day for donations of bags of compost.
"Anything people can give will be greatly received."
The eco committee previously asked locals for donations of plant pots and house plants in a bid to make the new site more eco-friendly.
The students say they aim to raising awareness over the green issues the country and the rest of the world are facing.
The group wants to educate other pupils on what they can do to support the fight against climate change, whilst also trying to make changes in the school itself.
