Showhomes set to be built for new 620-house estate in Kenilworth
Five showhomes are set to be built for a new 620-house estate in Kenilworth.
Outline planning permission was granted for the estate and primary school on Glasshouse Lane last April.
But with detailed plans for the site still being considered, Warwick District Council has granted permission for the showhomes and sales office to be built first.
The houses, which will be sold by Linden Homes, will be built just off Glasshouse Lane, opposite Stansfield Grove.
Three detached and two semi-detached homes will be built and there will also be ten parking spaces at the sales office.
The application was submitted by Crewe Lane Kenilworth JV LLP which is formed of Vistry Linden and Milverton Homes - WDC's own housing company.
However the application did receive an objection from Warwickshire County Council's Landscaping Team.
"The proposed scheme will require the removal of trees from within the southernmost part of Victoria Spinney to facilitate changes to the existing highway and to accommodate the sales unit and its associated access," the objection notice said.
"A rear access from the sales unit is shown within the woodland margin.
"The development would result in a more angular wooded area.
"Immediately against this a mix of ornamental shrubs and herbaceous plants and ornamental street trees are proposed, which are not naturally associated with woodland.
"Sorbus arvonensis is an endangered tree and, as far as I understand, only found along a narrow strip of the Menai Strait. It is therefore not appropriate within this setting."
Despite this planning application was approved by WDC.
Crewe Lane Kenilworth has also applied to demolish the Woodside Hotel in order to redevelop the site. The Victorian manor house is set to be surrounded by this new 620-house estate.
