Kenilworth's Waitrose has revealed plans to extend its delivery and loading hours as it continues to "be driven by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic".

The Bertie Road store said it needs longer to load its home delivery vans "to enhance the online services offered".

And it wants to have more time to accept deliveries due to the "stress on the logistics and distribution networks".

New times would see deliveries arrive between 6am and 11pm Monday to Sunday.

Currently Waitrose is only allowed to take deliveries between 7am and 11pm Monday to Saturday and between 8am and 9pm on Sundays.

It said the new times would see:

  • A single HGV delivery between 6-7am Mondays to Saturdays.
  • A single HGV delivery within any one-hour period between 6-8am on Sundays.
  • Two home delivery vans loading between 6-8am seven days per week.
  • Remaining loading of home delivery vans up to 11pm on Sundays.

The store said there would be no net increase in HGV's and only one extra home delivery van.

In its application to Warwick District Council Waitrose said: "The store's operations continue to be driven by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic which has accelerated demand for supermarket home deliveries and other online facilities (such as Click & Collect).

"Waitrose expect this demand to increase beyond the current health crisis, and as part of a significant and long planned financial investment, they intend to enhance the online services offered at its Kenilworth store.

"This will allow more customers to benefit from a full home delivery service that Waitrose offer, whilst increasing stock flow through the business to ensure home deliveries can be fulfilled.

"As the council will be aware, stress on the logistics and distribution networks remains an ongoing issued, most recently evidenced by the fuel shortages at petrol filling stations, with similar factors at play in the food retail sector that has the potential to undermine Waitrose's ability to ensure its stores can remain fully stocked over the course of a day and trading week."
