District council to invest £60m in 620 new homes in Kenilworth around Woodside Hotel
Warwick District Council has revealed plans to build 620 new houses in Kenilworth over the next eight years, after investing in the land around the Woodside Hotel.
The 76-acre site had a planning application for the houses and a new primary school approved by the district council prior to purchase from Catesby Estates.
Working with the council's housing company Milverton Homes and new partners Vistry Linden, WDC is set to invest £60 million in the project.
The site will include 248 affordable homes for WDC built to zero carbon and 'national development space' standards. A further 62 houses to be built for renting by Milverton Homes.
WDC has also said that these new 'healthy homes' will support an improved quality of life for those suffering with respiratory diseases asthma and bronchitis, nervous system, and cardiovascular diseases, as well as cancer.
Portfolio holder for homes, health and wellbeing Cllr Jan Matecki has welcomed the plans and said they show the council's commitment to tackling climate change. The council has committed to being carbon net zero by 2030.
"This is really welcome news for the district," he said.
"Our overall vision is to create healthy and sustainable developments that will stand the test of time; neighbourhoods that are inclusive and improve the lives of both new and existing residents.
"Through the provision of funding, the council can broker a greater stewardship role in place-shaping and meeting climate change objectives."
