Public meeting called on demolition of former Kenilworth School sites
By James Smith 25th Mar 2026
A public information event is set to be held next week providing a new update on the works at the Leyes Lane former school site.
While prior approval has been granted for the former Kenilworth School buildings to be flattened, residents are still waiting for Warwick District Council to decide on an application to turn the land into 224 homes.
A community meeting has been called with Homes England - which is behind the planning bid - for Monday (March 30) to update locals on the start of the "strip out" phase of the demolition.
The Leyes Lane Community Group has called the meeting and says it will provide an update on "protection and consideration" for nearby residents as well as bats and other wildlife on site.
Discussion on how asbestos on site will be handled and disposed of carefully will also be included.
The meeting will be held at 7pm on Monday 30 March at The Tiltyard on Leyes Lane.
The site is still owned by the district council and it is yet to confirm the possible sale of the plot to Homes England.
The council has already set out potential next steps for the project and is also imposing strict standards on what sort of houses are to be built there.
Survey work has been underway at the Leyes Lane site over the past few weeks.
Previous public information events were held at Kenilworth Wardens on Glasshouse Lane; organised by district councillors and hosted by WDC.
