Prior approval has been given for the former Kenilworth School site at Leyes Lane to be demolished.

Homes England submitted the plans in December, which have now been approved.

A separate application to develop the land into 224 homes has also been submitted but a decision is yet to be made by planners at Warwick District Council.

The plans to flatten the former school site were put forward under a prior approval application, which gives the council just 28 days to put conditions on the works before they are automatically approved.

In October, the district council confirmed the former school sites - which it owns - could be sold, but only with a development plan in place.

They have both sat empty since the school moved to Glasshouse Lane in 2023.

The local authority wants the land at Rouncil Lane and Leyes Lane to be turned into "high-quality, affordable, and environmentally sustainable homes".

Homes England has since held a public consultation on the plans for Leyes Lane.

Its application for houses would see 40 per cent of the homes designated as affordable.

The scheme also includes an 'extra care' facility with 75 bedrooms for the elderly.

No plans for Rouncil Lane have yet been revealed.
