The price of parking permits in Warwickshire looks set to rise as the county council looks to cover its costs.

Warwickshire County Council's (WCC) cabinet - the Reform UK and Conservative councillors in charge - will next week decide on hiking prices for the first time in over a decade.

A report due to be discussed shows parking permits have cost £25 annually since 2014, with residents able to have up to three.

Changes could see this jump to £45 for the first permit, with the second and third being more expensive.

The local authority is also considering a new six-month permit to minimise the impact of the raised costs.

"It is no longer financially sustainable to maintain the resident parking fees at the current flat fee rate as the income received does not cover the cost of delivering the service," the report said.

"The authority is also out of step with fees levied by other councils based on benchmarked information.

"The fee rate has therefore been reviewed in consultation with the portfolio holder for transport and planning and a phased pricing structure is proposed to address this.

"The scheme will continue to allow residents to purchase up to three resident permits and one visitor permit."

The price of parking permits varies greatly between councils, with nearby Coventry City Council charging £20.

Meanwhile Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council charges £135.

If approved, the new fees would be reviewed every three years.

The report continued: "The introduction of a shorter-term permit aims to reduce the upfront financial burden for residents while maintaining the integrity of the permit scheme.

"This six-month permit would require the same proof of eligibility to ensure compliance with existing criteria.

"The six-month permit option carries a small surcharge for the additional administrative and transaction costs.

"Proposed prices for the six-month permit are set out in the table below."

WCC's cabinet will discuss the plans on Tuesday 27 January.
