A potentially fatal canine disease has been confirmed at Dogs Trust Kenilworth, meaning the rehoming centre has been forced to close to the public.

The Honiley Road site announced on Tuesday (September 10) it has temporarily closed, but did not indicate when it is likely to reopen.

And now Dogs Trust has confirmed to Nub News that a case of Canine Parvovirus has been identified.

A statement from the charity said: "Dogs Trust Kenilworth is temporarily closed to the public due to a confirmed case of Canine Parvovirus (Parvo), a disease that causes diarrhoea and vomiting in dogs, and can unfortunately be fatal.

"Since the disease was first suspected in the rehoming centre, staff have been following strict veterinary advice, and while there is no risk to humans, to limit the spread to other dogs, our doors will be closed to the public for the next few days.

"During this time, the dogs in our care will continue to be looked after by rehoming centre staff who will adhering to strict guidelines around barrier care to reduce transmission.

"Until we are completely sure any risk to other dogs has passed, we will be temporarily pausing the rehoming of our dogs.

"We are in touch with the new families of dogs due to go to their new homes to ensure they have all the information they need."
