Police are expanding the search for a missing 86-year-old Kenilworth man who was last seen on Tuesday (December 3) morning.

John Taylor was last seen at Abbey Fields next to Finham Brook at around 9.20am, where officers believe he entered the water before carrying on walking.

A huge effort from Warwickshire Police including specialist officers, drones, helicopters, dogs, local search and rescue volunteers and a large number of local people has been seen over the past few days to try and find him.

Officers have concentrated their search around Kenilworth Castle - where John used to work - but are now expanding their field of search further as time passes.

Specialist teams are also set to start searching water bodies in the local area today (December 6) and tomorrow.

Officers at the scene at Kenilworth Castle told Nub News: "It [the search] is expanding out, the longer it goes on. The team are expanding out.

"We have done our most thorough searches in and around the castle.

"We have searched the castle; that has been done twice with dogs as he [John] used to work there.

"We have gone around the castle, around the immediate area around the last sighting.

"From all the CCTV enquiries it is quite clear we don't think he has gone in towards town because he would have been seen - towards countryside is the most likely.

"That is where we are concentrating our searches."

The community have already been thanked for their huge response over the past few days, with hundreds of locals out walking the local roads and fields to try and find John.

With a weather warning in place for this weekend though, police have asked locals to make sure they remain safe, do not enter bodies of water and do not take any unnecessary risks as the search continues.

Officers continued to Nub News: "The community response has been fantastic, and we really do appreciate it.

"Local businesses have given food to the people who are searching and the pubs have provided a centre for those that are helping with the searches.

"The community response has been amazing, it is great people who have come together for a local man who has a lot of history here.

"It is a horrible thing the family are going through and we are doing everything we can to find him."

A local Facebook group has also been set up to help the search.

The force has also shared some words from John's son Jonathan.

He said: "The whole family is really worried for John, he's beloved by all who know him and we just want our Pop back.

"We've been out with the police as the search goes on and I would like to urge anyone who reads this to stay vigilant and to call 999 straight away if they see him.

"If I could speak to him directly now, I'd ask him to please just reach out to someone nearby and ask for help.

"The whole town wants to help you."
