The son of an 86-year-old man who has gone missing in Kenilworth has released a statement as the police search continues.

A "significant" number of officers were out searching yesterday (December 3) for John who was last seen at Abbey Fields next to Finham Brook at around 9.20am on Tuesday.

A police helicopter also joined the search, and Warwickshire Police said it is "extremely worried" for his welfare.

Police believe he entered the water in Abbey Fields but got out of the water and continued walking.

The force has now shared some words from John's son Jonathan.

He said: "The whole family is really worried for John, he's beloved by all who know him and we just want our Pop back.

"We've been out with the police as the search goes on and I would like to urge anyone who reads this to stay vigilant and to call 999 straight away if they see him.

"If I could speak to him directly now, I'd ask him to please just reach out to someone nearby and ask for help.

"The whole town wants to help you."

Warwickshire Police believes John is still either in the area of Kenilworth or the surrounding countryside.

"We continue to search across Kenilworth and the countryside using our search specialists, police dogs and the police helicopter," the force said.

"Detectives are in town conducting door-to-door enquiries and we're rapidly following up on any possible sightings.

"If anyone has dash cam footage of the Castle Road area between 8am and 11am on 3 December, please review it in case you captured John."

The latest image (at the top of this article) was taken on Tuesday morning and shows what John was wearing when he went missing.

"If you would like to look for John, we would absolutely welcome you walking in the area of open ground near Kenilworth Castle and the surrounding countryside," police added.

"Please call us urgently on 999 quoting incident number 158 of 3 December if you see him."

Police are now for the welfare of a missing 86-year-old man from Kenilworth, who was last seen on Tuesday (December 3) morning.

"We are now extremely concerned for John's safety and we ask that you call 999 straight away if you see someone matching his description," a Warwickshire Police statement said.

"He is described as around 5'11" tall, of medium build and he may be wearing a navy blue cap, navy blue quilted jacket and navy blue/grey trainers.

"If you need to call us, please quote incident number 158 of 3 December."
