Plans to build two major warehouses on former Baginton sewage farm revealed
Plans to build two warehouses on a former, disused sewage farm in Baginton have been revealed.
The plans, submitted by Coventry and Warwickshire Development Partnership, include two industrial units covering 33,500 sq m, as well as 333 car parking spaces, offices and an outdoor area for staff.
If approved the warehouses would be in use 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The plans form part of a wider 450-acre business park scheme at Gateway South, near Coventry Airport.
Phase one of the project began in 2020, but this latest planning application is for plots 4B and 4C.
"The development will be made of high quality, robust modern materials to create a contemporary aesthetic," the planning statement said.
"The choice of materials and overall appearance including the landscaping was carefully designed in order to make this a modern distribution facility that will create new jobs and deliver new business to the local area."
A separate application is also set to be made for a new estate road for the development.
CWDP, which is owned by developers SEGRO, said this would help reduce traffic in the neighbouring villages.
The application added: "This arrangement is effective in keeping commuting traffic and HGV's out of the villages by using the new route to the east of Bagington linking directly onto the Rowley Road roundabout and the A45 Stonebridge Highway (westbound) or the new link road bridge into the Whitley South development."
Hedgerows and trees are also set to be planted to help mask the site, and there will be cycling and walking routes to the warehouses.
When SEGRO bought the Gateway South site in early 2020 Andrew Pilsworth, business unit director, said: "Gateway South, Coventry is truly an excellent location.
"It's well-connected, close to major population centres and it's one of a small number of sites that can accommodate our long-term vision of creating a high-quality industrial and logistics park.
"We're pleased to count some of the biggest names in logistics and industrial amongst our valued customers. We look forward to engaging with them to make Gateway South, Coventry a great success in the coming years."
The company said over 7,000 jobs would be created in the area.
Planning permission was granted in January for a 125-hectare battery factory to be built on the nearby Coventry Airport.
