Plans for an integrated retirement community and care home in Balsall Common have been revealed.

Restful Homes Developments Ltd has applied for planning permission for the major development off Oxhayes Close.

If approved, the scheme would see a field behind a residential street turned into a 62-bed care home and 90 extra care rooms.

The application - submitted to Solihull Metropolitan Borough Council - says a 'retirement hub' will be the central social space for the development.

A bar and bistro, lounges, gym, swimming pool with spa facilities, a salon and a private dining area as well as 24 retirement apartments would be included in the unit.

The care home itself will also include a cinema room, quiet rooms, activity rooms and sensory rooms. This as well as a public café.

The development would then have three further blocks comprising 62 two-bed rooms and 28 single-bed rooms.

"The units are generously sized and have either a patio, a balcony or a Juliet balcony," the application said.

"Generous circulation areas allow views out and offer residents a space to socialise outside of their apartment but allowing them to remain within the comfort of their apartment block."

It added: "The design of [the] new residential care community will deliver an attractive and sustainable development to be enjoyed by residents and visitors for years to come."

Restful Homes Developments already has seven care homes across the UK.

If both applications are approved, the retirement complex would be built next to 970 new homes in the village.
