Online gig to celebrate residents particularly affected by Covid-19 to stream this April

By James Smith 5th Aug 2021

A free concert paying tribute to those in Warwick district who have been affected by Covid-19 is to be streamed online on Saturday 24 April.

Brainchild of the council's green spaces team, 'BandStand Together' is a unique online gig recorded by local musicians. Each artists has been given a selection of songs dedicated to someone who has made a difference in the community, or has had a particularly difficult time due to the pandemic.

Warwick District Council's Community Engagement Officer, Nicky Bellenger commented: "We've been truly overwhelmed by the response to this event, some of the tributes have literally moved me to tears, as is the realisation of how the pandemic has touched the lives of so many in our community in different ways.

"I hope that people will enjoy this piece of local history we have brought together."

Local musician and songwriter Andy Mort commented: "It was wonderful to be able to take part in this celebration of local creativity and community.

"Being able to dedicate a song to someone who has had to dig really deep and shown amazing strength during the past year is an absolute honour. It would have been great to do this gig live on the Bandstand, but it's a powerful reminder, that in times of adversity, creativity flourishes!

"Thanks to all who made it happen. I can't wait to get out and perform in person locally again...hopefully soon!"

The 'Bandstand Together' concert will be streamed on Saturday 24 April at 6.30pm, via Warwick District Council's YouTube channel and will then be available on the Warwick District Council Website.
