The town council will not be given any additional funding to take on extra responsibility from its district colleagues, councillors have been told.

Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) has been exploring the possibility of taking on additional responsibilities from Warwick District Council (WDC) over the past two years, and has found three key things it may wish to take on.

Councillors are considering whether to ask to be in charge of the currently broken clock tower, as well as the globe water feature at Abbey End and the Pound on High Street.

But at a meeting last week, leader Cllr James Kennedy told the town council any extra work would have to come out of KTC's pocket.

"One thing was made very clear, if we take on new responsibilities as a town council, the district council will not give us any money to do it," he said.

"Don't even think of it.

"Anything we would take on, we would have to take on our own funds to do."

The town council agreed to approach WDC to ask about potential next steps and cost implications.

Town councillors would then vote on whether to formally take on any additional responsibility.
