New roundabout on Glasshouse Lane expected to be finished in May 2025
Works to build a new roundabout on a busy Kenilworth road are expected to be completed in May 2025, a report to Kenilworth Town Council has revealed.
Warwickshire County Council (WCC) already confirmed to Nub News that the four-arm roundabout on Glasshouse Lane will take at least four months to build.
The new junction, which will also include the entrance to Stansfield Grove, will be built by contractors appointed by the council. Construction was due to start earlier this year, but works have been delayed.
WCC's roadworks website says permission has been granted for traffic lights to be installed along Glasshouse Lane from the end of September until spring 2025.
And a report presented to Kenilworth Town Council on the local housing estates said: "The county council anticipate that contractors will commence off highway works on land within the developer's ownership off Glasshouse Lane (opposite Stansfield Grove) in October, moving onto the highway in 2025 with work completing by end of May 2025.
"On highway works will be traffic lights restricting flow with some night-time closures for surfacing.
"This will deliver a new four-arm roundabout at Glasshouse Lane / Stansfield Grove.
"Footway and cycleway facilities will also be provided and speed limits put in place. The scheme will connect into existing footways and to the newly created ones within the development."
The roundabout was due to be built before the new homeowners moved in last year, but the district council granted permission for the works to be pushed back.
The delay was blamed on road safety works around the new Kenilworth School taking longer than expected.
Now, the first 100 homeowners will now access their houses through the current temporary access road built for the show homes.
The roundabout will then be built in time for the 100th house being occupied.
In 2021 the district council announced it would be investing £60 million to help build the 620 homes in a joint project with Countryside Partnerships - which is part of Vistry Group.
The Stoneleigh View development will see 310 houses built for rent or shared ownership through the council's HomeChoice Scheme, or for private rental through Milverton Homes - the council's housing company.
The remaining 310 properties will be sold privately under the Linden Homes and Bovis Homes brands.
So far 33 houses have been finished, with the district council recently taking ownership of its homes at the site.
