Cllr Alison Firth has set out her priorities following her victory at this month's by-election in Kenilworth.

The Green Party councillor has been elected as the new member for Kenilworth Park Hill Ward at Warwick District Council.

She took a resounding victory with 1,007 votes, followed by the Conservative's Malcolm Graham in second with 588.

Following her victory, Cllr Firth told Nub News: "I am delighted to have been elected as Warwick District Councillor for Park Hill and would like to thank all those who supported me.

"My priorities going forward are rooted in serving residents and protecting our local environment.

"These include supporting the development of the Kenilworth School sites in a way that benefits the community, responding promptly to residents' queries, and ensuring safe access for pedestrians and cyclists to Kenilworth School.

"I will also work to help residents decarbonise their homes, lower their fuel bills, and promote biodiversity across Park Hill and Kenilworth.

"Another key focus will be improving the Cherry Orchard landfill site for public amenity and biodiversity, and supporting town council initiatives to ensure Kenilworth remains a vibrant and inclusive town.

"Finally, I am committed to working closely with colleagues at Warwick District Council, Warwickshire County Council, and Kenilworth Town Council so that residents benefit from joined-up and effective local government".

The by-election was called after Lara Cron resigned as she moved away from the area.

The result means the Greens still have 16 councillors at Warwick District Council, making them the largest group.

They remain without a majority and have formed a coalition with Labour who have seven seats again after winning September's Leamington Clarendon by-election.

Cllr Firth previously served on Kenilworth Town Council and was Mayor of Kenilworth.
