The vacant school site on Rouncil Lane has been broken into multiple times and council contractors have been repeatedly forced to repair vandalism, a council report has said.

Warwickshire Police has also had to respond to reports of trespass at the site, which has sat empty for over two years.

Nub News previously reported a video on social media of someone breaking into the site had been viewed thousands of times on TikTok.

"The existing buildings at both Rouncil Lane and Leyes Lane are in a state of disrepair and have been subject to vandalism and trespass," the Warwick District Council (WDC) report said.

"To improve this situation, since October the fencing securing the sites has been renewed, fixings have been made more secure and regular inspections are taking place.

"Issues at the buildings created by trespassers illegally gaining access have resulted in multiple visits from the council's maintenance contractor, AXIS, to board up and secure the properties, and discussions have been held with the security contractor as to how the sites could be improved."

The report also said Rouncil Lane neighbours had complained at how overgrown the site was and that Japanese Knotweed was taking hold.

More contractors have been sent in to deal with this.

What is happening with the Rouncil Lane site?

The report - due to be discussed by councillors on Thursday 5 February - sets out possible next steps for the development of the site.

Allocated for housing in the local plan, the former sixth form buildings are expected to be demolished at some point, but a planning application for the land is yet to be submitted.

The council is currently working to launch an 'expression of interest' exercise to see if there are developers interested in building on it.

WDC is also considering the minimum specification for the energy efficiency of new homes there, as well as the number of affordable ones built.

"It is intended that the sale of both Leyes Lane and Rouncil Lane will include a requirement for the affordable housing units to be offered to WDC in the first instance before they are made available to the wider market," the report said.
