More delays hit £1m Kenilworth roundabout build
By James Smith 8th Apr 2026
A scheme to build a new roundabout on a busy Kenilworth road which have been continually put back have once again been delayed.
Works to create the new junction at the entrance to Stoneleigh View on Glasshouse Lane were due to begin on March 16, but construction is yet to start.
The new junction, which will also include the entrance to Stansfield Grove, was expected to be built in 2024, but has repeatedly been put back.
Eventually a four-arm roundabout with "footway and cycleway facilities" connecting to those already being built along Glasshouse Lane will be built.
But an update from local Liberal Democrat councillors said the earliest the works will now start is April 20.
The group also stated the works would cost £1 million.
"After chasing by Lib Dem councillors from a neighbouring area, it seems the earliest the work could start is 20 April and could run until 6 November, i.e. into the start of the 2026/27 academic year," the group said.
"This matters because it needs to be safer for school students walking or cycling to/from the school on this part of Glasshouse Lane.
"It'll also be safer for local residents using Oakley Road. Sadly these works will coincide with the closure of Dalehouse Lane until 2027 for HS2 works.
"We'll continue to push for the council's agreement with the contractor to be signed and the works started as soon as possible. We'll also keep residents informed of what's happening."
Explaining the delays to the works last year, a spokesperson for WCC told Nub News: "The priority junction has been delayed by needing additional service diversions.
"We are not permitted to commence the work on Stansfield roundabout until that work is complete.
"Also, the work will now need to be retendered due to contractual reasons.
"Therefore, work is unlikely to start before the New Year."
