More concerns about 'inappropriate' plans for new cancer treatment centre

More concerns have been raised about plans for a new cancer treatment centre to be built between Leamington Spa and Kenilworth.
Nuffield Health & Icon Group has applied to Warwick District Council for what it says will be a "state of the art" facility at Nuffield Health Warwickshire Hospital, on Old Milverton Lane.
The application had already been met with an objection from Old Milverton and Blackdown Joint Parish Council which said the scheme was "inappropriate development" in the green belt.
Warwickshire County Council's highways department has also objected to the scheme raising concerns about the amount of parking on site - as the building will cover 55 spaces - and the impact this could have on neighbouring roads.
"If the parking shortfall cannot be accommodated within the existing parking areas, the highway authority cannot support any proposals that rely on off-site car parking," the objection said.
Documents recently uploaded to the planning application also revealed Nuffield Health & Icon Group has had a meeting with Warwick District Council to try and iron out some of the problem points.
A detailed response from the applicant included reassurances the new cancer treatment centre will run jointly with the existing hospital on site, and will not be a separate entity.
The healthcare provider also argued it did not need to demonstrate 'very special circumstances' for developing in the green belt as the site has already been built on.
However, it also said the extra building is still appropriate for the area.
"It is very clear that the proposed building is modest in scale, being two-storeys in height and less than the adjacent hospital as shown by the section plans," the report said.
"It is also configured as compact as possible to minimise the impact on the surround trees and maximise servicing and external circulation space. It is therefore clear that the proposed building is proportionate to surrounding development."
The facility - which would house radiography treatment - would be timber clad to offer "luxury facilities compared to traditional hospital environments".
Nuffield has already amended its application following an initial objection from the parish council. The council maintained its objections though.
Nuffield announced plans for the development last year with Icon to provide specialist radiation oncology services that complement Nuffield Health's existing cancer care.
"The new development will significantly enhance the hospital's existing cancer care services by introducing specialist treatment, some of which is currently unavailable through Nuffield Health in Warwickshire," the application said.
"These include radiotherapy using a Linear Accelerator, PET/CT diagnostic, chemotherapy, and associated consultation and treatment services.
"The proposed facility will enhance and expand the existing Nuffield Health Hospital services provided."
