The Mayor of Kenilworth has praised an exhibition of "wonderful" art that was held at St John's Church last weekend.

Cllr Alix Dearing officially opened the event at the town centre church on Saturday (July 1) which saw 17 local creatives display their work.

The free exhibition was part of the Warwickshire Open Studios summer art weeks during which 18 local displays were organised across the town.

"Seventeen Kenilworth artists staged a wonderful exhibition on Saturday in St John's church for Warwickshire Open Studios," Cllr Dearing said.

"A wide range of styles from abstract to near photographic, from Lino cut to collage.

"We're lucky to have such a talented and local group."

The Kenilworth Artist group was founded in October 2018 with the aim of promoting and exhibiting the works, talent and the range of art being produced by creative people in Kenilworth.

Since the small seed of the idea was planted, the group has grown to 60 members and now has an established presence in the town.

The group takes an inclusive approach – there is no membership fee – and they meet to share ideas and opportunities, working together (often in partnership with the Kenilworth Arts Festival team) to create exhibitions and events locally.
