Residents have been warned the footpaths and play areas could be closed in Abbey Fields next week for works around the town's new swimming pools.

A notice from contractors Kier at the town centre park said on Monday (23 February) new mains cables will be installed to connect the leisure centre to the neighbouring barn museum.

"This has been requested to provide a larger and more reliable source of electricity," the note said.

"We will keep disruption to a minimum but there will be occasions when unavoidably we will need to close the footpath, the playground and access to the ladies' toilets."

Planning permission to connect power to the museum was signed off earlier this year.

Works on the town's new swimming pools remain ahead of schedule and are due to finish this spring.

An opening date for Abbey Fields Leisure Centre is yet to be announced.
