A town councillor has warned the decision to close Kenilworth’s branch of Lloyd’s will leave some residents, businesses and charities vulnerable.
The high street bank announced it would close it’s Warwick Road branch last month, with it set to shut for the final time in February 2025.
Warwick’s branch is also set to close down, however unlike in Kenilworth, it will be replaced with a ‘banking hub’.
“In Warwick it is proposed they will create a banking hub which is a building - possibly at the Post Office - where all banks will put staff in,” Cllr Richard Dickson explained at the most recent Kenilworth Town Council meeting.
“They are not proposing to do the same in Kenilworth because they say the number of customers they have at the branch does not warrant it.
“There is a set procedure they have to follow under the Financial Conduct Authority, which they are following.
“They are looking at doing at what Barclays do which is having a one day a week operation in a suitable location.”
He added: “It is affecting a lot of residents, particularly the vulnerable ones who have a need to access to cash, and of course some businesses and some charities.
As well as the branch closing, the cash machine will be removed.
The company has blamed dwindling customer numbers, saying just 511 customers visit in person on a monthly basis.
Explaining the decision to close the Kenilworth branch, Lloyds said: "Before we close any branch, we look at how our customers are managing their money and using the branch.
"Most customers are now using our Mobile Banking app, Internet Banking or calling us instead.
"This means they are using branches, including our Kenilworth branch much less.
"Because of this, we'll be closing our Kenilworth branch."
Halifax, HSBC and Barclays have all also closed their local branches.
