A Leek Wootton police officer is taking on a unique walking challenge this July to raise money for a police and military charity.

PC Scott Caswell, 48, will walk four miles every day whilst wearing a full face respirator and carrying a 50lb military bergan, covering a total of 124 miles.

Raising money for the Curtis Palmer Programme, he will be walking around Warwickshire Police's headquarters whilst off-duty.

PC Caswell completed a similar challenge last November when he walked non-stop with his bergan around the Leek Wootton HQ for 24 hours, covering 87 miles.

Speaking of his latest endeavour, he said: "This challenge will not be an easy one – I'm 48 now and the respirator will seriously restrict my breathing, which, added to the weight I'm going to be carrying, completing four miles every day for 31 days in a row is going to be really demanding in every way possible.

"I'm doing the challenge to raise funds and awareness of the Curtis Palmer Programme – a military and emergency services charity which supports frontline workers who are suffering from mental or physical health problems, often caused by trauma or injury at work.

"A big thank you to everyone who has supported me so far. If anyone sees me out and about, feel free to give me a wave and come and join me."

More information on Scott's efforts can be found here.
