The final public consultation on plans for 55,000 new homes in South Warwickshire is now live.

Warwick and Stratford-on-Avon District Councils have signed off on the final steps for the South Warwickshire Local Plan (SWLP) which will govern how the region is developed over the next 25 years.

The document - which divided councillors across the two councils - needs to be submitted to the government before the end of the year to be approved.

This final 'regulation 19' consultation is now underway and runs until Tuesday 8 September.

This time around, the council is asking for feedback on whether SWLP is a compliant and "legally sound" document.

This differs to the previous public consultations which asked for feedback on specific sites included in it.

"The publication or regulation 19 consultation is the fourth stage in the process of preparing the new South Warwickshire Local Plan (SWLP)," the councils said.

"This is the final opportunity for formal engagement with the public before the SWLP will be submitted to the government for independent examination.

"This stage differs from previous three rounds of consultations (namely scoping and call for sites, issues and options, preferred options).

"The SWLP will include the final growth strategy, locations for growth (housing, employment and other uses) and a list of policies.

"Representations at this stage should specifically address whether the draft plan is legally compliant and sound (i.e., is it positively prepared, justified, effective, and consistent with national policy)."
