HS2 roadworks in Kenilworth appear to be in competition with non-HS2 roadworks, a town councillor joked as the issue of traffic disruption in the town was once again discussed.
Town councillors say they are continuing to push for better communication and co-ordination in Kenilworth as the amount of roadworks increases.
Road closures for HS2 and traffic lights around new housing developments and for utilities works have been a source of frustration for motorists already this year.
Recent works have seen Crackley Lane closed, four-way traffic lights on Knowle Hill and traffic lights along Warwick Road - among others.
Speaking at last week's Kenilworth Town Council meeting, Cllr Adrian Marsh said: "The issues associated with the construction of HS2 continue to affect the town.
"Some of you will have noticed the significant amount of roadworks.
"I think the non-HS2 temporary traffic lights outplay the HS2 temporary traffic lights."
He added: "Construction works will continue until 2028 so it is not going to change in the near future. The scale of the works is immense."
However, councillors say they have continued to press HS2 and Warwickshire County Council for better communication on roadworks to ensure multiple busy roads in Kenilworth are not impacted at the same time.
Cllr Marsh continued: "We will continue to press for better co-ordination, and for improved communication to make residents aware of disruption.
"We encourage better communication between the HS2 contractors and other contractors coming from housebuilders and utilities companies.
"They are aware of the lack of co-ordination."
Town council members are due to meet a University of Warwick professor researching the community impact of HS2 works.
