The council's housing company remains in discussion with Kenilworth Wardens over the club's potential move to the other side of town.

Warwick District Council has already provided £712,000 to help the club relocate from Glasshouse Lane to Castle Farm, with its current ground allocated for houses in the local plan.

WDC's cabinet signed off on a further £300,000 in forward funding last September with a report saying the project would "probably not go ahead" unless the council increased its funding.

But with the council only able to recoup its investment once the ground has been sold to a developer, deputy chief executive Andrew Jones promised last summer that a full assessment of the club's long-term business plan would be made.

The council also said last year that Milverton Homes - which is already funding £60 million for a major housing project in Kenilworth - could "take a leading role in delivering the project".

And speaking at last week's full council meeting, Cllr Richard Dickson asked for an update on the scheme.

Portfolio holder for place, Cllr John Cooke explained: "Kenilworth Wardens are in discussion with Milverton Homes ltd and the LHL Joint Venture about the best way to bring the scheme forward.

"A legal agreement for the release of the funding should be signed by both parties shortly."

Meanwhile an update to members at Kenilworth Wardens this month, seen by Nub News, described the move to Castle Farm as an "evolving and frustratingly complex process".

"The process has been and is complex, through the building and grounds design, the planning requirements, the financing of the move and the actual land deals which will bring it to fruition, nothing in the process is straightforward," it added.

"This is further complicated by the wider context of local authorities needing to deliver their objectives within the Kenilworth development plan.

"It is therefore difficult to provide up-to-date and detailed information since goalposts can literally move between writing and reading a newsletter.

"We are hopeful that more information will soon be shareable."
