Staff and students at Kenilworth School have now completed their 'Lockdown Running Challenge' in aid of NHS Charities Together.

From Monday 15 February to Sunday 14 March members of the school community were making the most of their daily allotted exercise to clock up the miles as well as to raise money for a worthy cause.

In all 48 staff members and over 50 students took part in the challenge and raised over £5,700, smashing the original target of £4,000.

The four-week challenge also gave staff and students the chance to push themselves individually. Three members of staff reached personal totals of 200km or more, including receptionist Miss Armstrong who ran 250km in the 28 days.

Head of Year 11 Mr Holdforth and English Teacher Miss Purewal each ran their first half marathons as part of the event.

Students also clocked up an impressive distance with Jess Muligan (Year 13) and Ewan Jones (Year 11) reaching 209.82km and 206.3km respectively.

Year 12 students Holly Pater and Harriet Butler decided to mix things up a bit, and ran four miles every four hours for a 48-hour period.

Faith Orton (Year 9) and Theo Orton (Year 8) have each ran the equivalent of a marathon over the course of the month. Ella Roche in Year 7 also clocked up a fantastic 68.8km.

Extra impetus was given to participants halfway through the month as NHS Charities Together Champion, and Liverpool FC captain Jordan Henderson recorded a motivational video to help inspire the runners.

Event organiser Sandeep Purewal said after the event had finished: "The running challenge has been great fun to organise and I'm very pleased that so many students and staff members decided to sign up for it.

"It has been truly inspiring to hear about the achievements of participants over the course of the month and I have been blown away by how much we have been able to raise for NHS Charities Together."
