Here are the biggest Kenilworth planning stories from the past week.

Victorian Viaduct

Plans for a major repair project on a 180-year-old railway bridge near Kenilworth have been given the green light.

Network Rail has been given prior approval for a 26-week renovation project on the River Avon viaduct at Old Milverton.

The nine-arch bridge, which was first built in 1844, carries the line across the River Avon and the floodplain between Kenilworth and Leamington Spa.

HS2

Detailed plans for HS2's 690-metre 'cut and cover' tunnel in Burton Green have been given the green light by Warwick District Council (WDC).

The high-speed rail developer said the tunnel will be masked by extensive tree planting to "integrate seamlessly with the existing landscape".

While HS2 already has outline permission to build the tunnel through the High Speed Rail Act, the specific designs for the structure needed to be signed off by locals councils.

Compound Continues

A planning application for HS2's proposed major compound near Stoneleigh has been submitted to Warwick District Council (WDC).

The scheme was first put forward in April 2022, with HS2 saying it wanted to expand Highways England's former site on Stoneleigh Road to use it as a compound for the next four years.

WDC then said an environmental impact assessment (EIA) was needed before a planning application would be considered.

Offices to Accommodation

A new school building and student accommodation could replace an old office block near the University of Warwick.

Developers want to knock down a converted office in Westwood Business Park where the National Mathematics and Science College (NMSC) is based.

In its place would go a five-storey building for the college with classrooms, laboratories and a main hall for students.
