Kenilworth planning roundup: school concerns, new housing estate and medical centre
By James Smith 24th Jan 2026
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
School Site Worries
A proposed new housing estate in Kenilworth could "cause harm to the public health infrastructure" the local NHS trust has said.
Homes England has applied for planning permission to demolish the former Kenilworth School site at Leyes Lane and replace it with 224 new homes.
If approved, the development would see 40 per cent of the homes labelled affordable and an 'extra care' facility with 75 bedrooms for the elderly built.
Medical Centre's Expansion
Council planners have given the green light for a Kenilworth GP surgery to expand.
Abbey Medical Centre has been granted planning permission for a small extension to create new consulting rooms and office space.
Plans approved by Warwick District Council show the existing roof space at the Station Road facility will have a flat-roof extension and there will also be some change to the internal layout.
Developer's Plans Revealed
A land promoter has revealed plans for a major new estate on the edge of Kenilworth.
Richborough has informed residents around Rouncil Lane of its plans for the new development which would be built on farmland behind the former Kenilworth School sixth form site.
The company's website states the estate could have up to 175 new homes.
