Green light to expand Kenilworth medical centre
By James Smith 23rd Jan 2026
Council planners have given the green light for a Kenilworth GP surgery to expand.
Abbey Medical Centre has been granted planning permission for a small extension to create new consulting rooms and office space.
Plans approved by Warwick District Council show the existing roof space at the Station Road facility will have a flat-roof extension and there will also be some change to the internal layout.
"The proposal is a small size development, involving alterations to the existing roof and internal floor layouts," the application explained.
"However, it is wholly within the existing footprint of the building and won't be expanding into any additional land."
Submitted in November last year, the application was approved this January.
Signing off on the plans, a council report said: "The proposed development is considered to be acceptable in design terms when considering the limited extent of the proposed extension and its positioning on the host building, with the scheme considered to have an acceptable impact on the character and appearance of the area.
"The proposal is considered to have an acceptable impact on the amenity of neighbouring uses, with the imposition of a specific condition ensuring that there is no adverse impact on neighbouring amenity.
"The proposal is considered to be acceptable from a parking perspective owing to the proximity to an existing public car park and will have an acceptable impact on protected species."
