West Coast Main Line

Major work on the West Coast main line near Kenilworth is now complete meaning trains can keep running at full speed between Coventry and Birmingham International.

The railway reopened yesterday (October 10) after a £1.4million investment which saw 650 metres of track replaced through Beechwood Tunnel.

The two-day closure near Berkswell saw rails, sleepers and ballast replaced to ensure trains can continue to travel through the tunnel at the full line speed of 110mph.

Park Improvements

A Kenilworth park has been earmarked for investment by the district council, and locals are being given a say on its future.

Warwick District Council has announced that Glendale Avenue Park will benefit from improvement work and is urging as many younger residents as possible to give feedback on the plans.

The survey asks residents how frequently they use the park and then what equipment and features they would like to see there.

Play Area Closures

The play area in Abbey Fields will soon close on weekdays as the swimming pool is demolished, the district council has confirmed.

The council announced at the start of September that contracts had been signed for the demolition and redevelopment of Abbey Fields Leisure Centre.

WDC also confirmed that the children's playground and tennis courts will be closed during the works, although the play area will remain open at weekends for the entirety of the project.

Art Gallery Completed

Locally based Jonathan Holland Architects and Paul Tracey Construction have recently completed a new-build private art studio, known as The Bank Gallery Studio, on Kenilworth High Street.

The studio sits just behind the grade II listed Bank Gallery and next to grade I listed St Nicholas Church.

The building was designed for a private commercial client, aiming to create a studio workspace which can also be used for small scale private events and exhibitions.
