The play area in Abbey Fields will soon close on weekdays as the swimming pool is demolished, the district council has confirmed.

The council announced at the start of September that contracts had been signed for the demolition and redevelopment of Abbey Fields Leisure Centre.

WDC also confirmed that the children's playground and tennis courts will be closed during the works, although the play area will remain open at weekends for the entirety of the project.

The playground will close on weekdays from Thursday October 20.

The path from Bridge Street and the small footbridge next to the swimming pool will be closed during the work.

A temporary path is being created over the duck feeding platform in Abbey Fields to allow access from High Street to Abbey Hill, which will open when the hoarding is assembled.
