Kenilworth planning roundup: Nightclub, rugby club plans and concerns ignored
Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.
'Rearranged Deck Chairs on the Titanic'
"All they have done is rearrange the deck chairs on the titanic."
That is how one Kenilworth councillor described updated designs for a major new housing development on the edge of town, after the developer behind the scheme had seemingly ignored a series of comments from the council.
Kenilworth Town Council (KTC) had already submitted an objection to the latest application for the land at Thickthorn which will eventually see 291 homes, a takeaway and local centre built.
Rugby Club Plans
Plans to turn Kenilworth Rugby Club's Glasshouse Lane ground into a new housing estate have been updated, with the developer behind the scheme removing some 20 properties from the designs.
Bloor Homes last year submitted a planning application for the development which would see the new homes split over two parcels of land.
Originally for 220 homes, the scheme will also see a new junction built along Glasshouse Lane.
Initially the designs would have seen 170 houses built on the 'Cowpatch' site, with the remaining 50 to be built where the current clubhouse sits.
Nightclub Plans
Councillors have been told plans to bulldoze a Leamington Spa nightclub to make way for more student accommodation should be blocked.
Ni Ann Ltd has submitted an application to demolish Smack - which remains open for business - and replace it with a five-storey building with "purpose-built" apartments.
The developer claims replacing the Tavistock Street club with 48 bedrooms would be better for the area.
But following multiple objections - including from Leamington Spa Town Council - a Warwick District Council report says the application should be refused.
