Here are the biggest local planning stories from the past week.

Castle Farm

Warwick District Council and Everyone Active have announced an opening date for the much-anticipated new Castle Farm Leisure Centre in Kenilworth.

The result of a 20-month long project – which saw the demolition of the old Castle Farm Recreation Centre – is the creation of a brand new, larger leisure centre that will bring the leisure provision in Kenilworth into the 21st century.

Castle Farm has also received an 'A-rating' for its energy performance, which will provide sustainable energy and support the centre's commitment to a greener future.

Abbey Fields

The new designs for Abbey Fields swimming pools were signed off by councillors at Warwick District Council this week.

Following the discovery of archaeological remains when the previous Abbey Fields Leisure Centre was demolished, the local authority has been forced to update the plans for the new building, raising its height slightly.

No significant other changes have been made to the proposals, which were signed off by the council's planning committee on Wednesday (December 13).

Full planning permission has already been granted for the first 98 homes along Leamington Road, which are already under construction and some on the market.

The high speed developer was given permission for the new road layout by Warwick District Council, with the diversion set to be in place for 23 months.

The old bridge is currently still in place, and there are traffic lights controlling traffic over the single-track crossing.
