Pictures show the new temporarily-diverted layout for Cromwell Lane, with a new curved bridge now spanning the under-construction HS2 line.

The high speed developer was given permission for the new road layout by Warwick District Council, with the diversion set to be in place for 23 months.

The old bridge is currently still in place, and there are traffic lights controlling traffic over the single-track crossing.

"The temporary realignment and signalisation of Cromwell Lane will facilitate construction of HS2 assets, maintain local connectivity and provide a safe environment for road users and pedestrians," HS2's planning application said.

"The temporary diversion is currently anticipated to be in place for 23 months."

Construction of the new road alignment has taken months and has seen repeated road closures in place through Burton Green.

The High Speed Rail Act 2017 decreed the realignment would happen at some point, but approval for certain design and construction matters still had to be given by the local authority.

A new bridge will eventually be built at Cromwell Lane over the Kenilworth Greenway underpass, and the covered HS2 line.

HS2 has already had its designs for the 'cut and cover' tunnel at Burton Green signed off by the council.
