Athletes' Village

The University of Warwick's athletes' village has been given the final green light after Coventry City Council granted planning permission.

Warwick District Council had already given the go ahead, but with the university falling on both local authorities' patches both needed to give approval.

Nearly 2,000 athletes will be housed in student accommodation with training areas and storage facilities also added.

Abattoir's Expansion

WDC has granted permission for Farmers Fresh on Rouncil Lane to build a new refrigeration unit in its old offices.

The abattoir will also have a two-storey office block built.

The expansion will allow it to house an extra 1,500 lamb carcasses at a time.

Murals

Councillors had planned to use money from the Government's Welcome Back Fund to pay for the project.

An appeal has been lodged after WDC prevented a bungalow from being demolished and rebuilt due to its impact on a local listed building.

But a report from historic building consultants Richard K Morriss & Associates said: "It is considered that the proposals for the replacement of 55 Fieldgate will be an enhancement of the streetscape and of the conservation area."

Local councillors had been split over the decision when permission was refused.

Golf Club's Half Way House

Plans to replace the half way house at Kenilworth Golf Course have been submitted to Warwick District Council.

If approved the current building will be removed and rebuilt with another wooden building with toilets and a kitchen.

Kenilworth Town Council said it had no reason to object to the application.
