Litter picks will take place across Kenilworth this weekend as part of the Great British Spring Clean campaign.

The campaign, which begins today, will see volunteers collect litter at three local parks in the town on Saturday, March 26.

St John's Park, Bates Memorial Field and Ebourne Recreation Park will all be given a spring clean.

"Our local green spaces help make Kenilworth a great community in which to live. They're a vital part of our environment which, together, we should cherish," said Cllr Richard Dickson.

"Local residents who'd like to join on a litter pick in some of our local parks would be very welcome.

"Litter bags will be provided but helpers are encouraged to wear sensible clothing, especially gloves."

Timings:

- St John's Guy Road Park: 1:00pm – 2:00pm

- Bates Memorial Field: 2:00pm – 3:00pm

- Ebourne Recreation Park: 3:00pm – 4:00pm

The Great British Spring Clean was launched in 2020 by Keep Britain Tidy to keep public parks clean during the pandemic.

When the campaign launched Richard McIlwain, deputy chief executive of Keep Britain Tidy, said: "The UK was the birthplace of the public park and their value was recognised by many people during lockdown, as a haven of greenspace for exercise and relaxation.

"But, as lockdown measures have eased, we've seen a significant minority of people abuse these treasured spaces, with shocking scenes of anti-social behaviour, leading to littering, deposit of human waste and abuse of parks staff."
